Happy Mother's Day

To all the Moms' of my wonderful students,

I want to thank, and recognize, every single one of you.  Moms dedicate such an incredible amount of time, energy, dedication and love to their children's lives.  With this dedication comes many, many additional responsibilities.  Some of  the responsibilities could include caring for your kids' friends (often whom become extended family), driving to after school activities and supporting education.  If it weren't for the love that you share with your kids, I wouldn't have the privilege of spending my days with such spectacularly, incredible young people. Thank you for loving your kids, supporting your kids, dreaming with your kids and overall, being there for your kids.

Our chief superintendent, Gary Strother, sent the below video to all district members.  It is going viral and I believe it to be very accurate.

Volunteers Needed

It is hard to believe that almost one year ago, our city was flooded and zoo authorities were asking that lions and tigers find safe homes in prison cells.  Our city truly came together and many, many hours of hard work went toward restoring the damage.

We are lucky to have such an incredible zoo.  We are even luckier that animals did not die in the floods.  On June 13, 2014 the Kindergarten through grade 9 classes will be going to the zoo.  Our class needs four (4) adult volunteers in order to make this special occasion happen.  Please e-mail or write a note in your child's agenda if you, or a guardian, can support your child's learning this day.

Thank you, parents.  Your efforts and support in our classroom activities make a huge difference and are greatly appreciated.

Choral Speech

Miss Hagel with our grade three classmate and her grade two sister
during intermission

We were so blessed this week to have the opportunity to partner with the grade ones and twos in performing "Bugs! Bugs!" by Jack Prelutsky, at the 2014 Applause Elementary Speech and Drama Festival.  This occasion gave us the privilege of studying poetry using dramatization, while working with younger students in the school.  Please see the "Literacy page" to hear how animated and terrific we were!

Thank you to all parents who volunteered at this occasion.

Those Leprechauns!
They got us again...

Mr. Paolozzi had to let the grade threes in today.  I was late for school because my alarm did not go off.  As I came running down the hallway, I heard a lot of noise coming from the class.  Just about to request silence from my little guys (I don't like noisy learning), I turned into my classroom.

Now, any of my students will tell you I like a clean, tidy learning environment.  Do I get mad that the kids made a mess of our classroom?  We know we are not allowed unhealthy snack.  Why didn't Mr. Paolozzi tell them to stop making a mess?  Who walks around with green paint on their toes?

I couldn't get mad!  They tell me it wasn't them.  Those leprechauns must have snuck in this weekend.

My Students Make me a Proud Teacher!

To my wonderful kids that make me smile every day,

Since I was away today, I asked you to write me to tell about your favourite part(s) of the day. It sounds like everyone enjoys researching.  This is incredible.  You will discover SO much in this world if you have this skill; the world is your oyster.

I can't wait to see your butterfly art projects.  These were coming along so well last art class.  I'm sure they will take my breath away tomorrow.

Here is an entry that was sent to me... "I learned today about butterfly’s and larva where they live and what are they eating."  I'm proud of your work today in researching, your use of technology to communicate and the positive attitude you bring to our classroom.

See you tomorrow,
Miss Hagel

Doing My Homework

Good evening grade 3's.  I want you to know that I am doing my homework tonight.  Right now I am in class (while you are at home), learning more about blogging.  Show your parents the new post in "Parent Resources."
